The recordings in may went well, and we got 10 songs in the box and these are now mixed and finished. In september we well record the last 5 songs. The material is good with a good diversity. All the songs are new compositions of classics, and most of them are composed by faroese composers. The singers of Mpiri perform many soloes, but one solo is sung by the famous faroese winner of "star for one evening" contest in TV - Guðrun Sólja. |

Succes in Finland - october 2004 |
The tour to Finland and the three concerts there were a great succes. In Turku/Åbo we performed for about 200 invited Nordic guests at the 80th anniversary of the Pohjola-Norden Association, and both guests and hosts were very enthusiastic afterwards. The concert in Sibbo was also a great experience where we had a very good audience from the local community. The final concert was in the fantastic chuch in Berghäll/Kallion in Helsinki. This was perhaps the best concert, where we had a different programme than in the other two concerts. We received a lot of very positive remarks from the audience after the concert. Mpiri wishes to thank the Pohjola-Norden Association and all our sponsors for the help and support we received for the tour to Finland.

Two Cultural Nights - september 2004 |
The Cultural Night in Liberiet in Lund, Sweden, ont the 18th of September went very well. Mpiri performed in a full house (more than a hundred spectators) and got a nice review in a local Swedish newspaper. Our next performance is on The Cultural Night in Copenhagen on the 8th of October in The Faroese House. This evening is going to be something out of the ordinary. Jensina Olsen, our vice chairman has organized the event in cooperation with The Faroe House, the Faroese chain dance group, Fótatraðk and the exiting group Virelai performing medieval music. The atmosphere is going to be damp and dark with torches and candle lights to give a feeling reminiscent of the old Faroese houses.

Plans for the future - october 2002 |
Having just acquired a new conductor as well as a couple of new singers, Mpiri will not be performing as frequently as it has been the case for the past few months. There lies a great job ahead of us rehearsing new material and in general to restore the sonority of the choir after changing the composition of the voice-groups. The only performances until Christmas will be on Saturday the 14th of December. At one o'clock pm we will sing on the 'Strøget' and afterwards we will be singing at the Christmas-concert at the 'Helligåndskirken' church in Copenhagen, where you can hear faroese, greenlandic and icelandic choirs singing parts of their christmas repertoire. This concert starts at five o'clock pm. |
New conductor - october 2002 |
Mpiri has reached an agreement with the danish conductor Gorm Larsen to conduct the choir. Gorm is 35 years old and educated as a conductor at the Royal Conservatory in Copenhagen. He has also studied at the Royal College of Music in London, as well as studying musical science at the University of Århus. Gorm is specialized in renaissance- and baroque music, but is also very interested in modern music. Within a short period of time there will be a profile on him on the homepage. |
New singers - october 2002 |
We have long been planning to admit a new tenor into the choir, after Uni moved back to the Faroes in the spring. Benjamin has also made it clear that he will not be able to continue in the choir. Thus we suddenly needed no less than two new tenors. The preceding week we therefore arranged entrance examinations, and the new tenors in Mpiri are: Rókur Jákupsson and Theodor Erling Johannesen. In addition Marjun Hoydal is now readmitted to the choir after having studied in Vienna for the last year. We welcome them and will put their profiles on the homepage as soon as possible. |
On tour to Gothenburg - october 2002 |
The last part of the 2002 nordic tour of Mpiri can be experienced during the days of 11th and 13th october in Gothenburg. This is also our last tour with our conductor during the past two years, Sunleif Rasmussen - at least for the time being. The choir has attained a lot of interest from other qualified conductors as the rumour of Sunleifs resignation has spread, and we´ll probably soon be settled with a new one. |
CD recordings - august 2002 |
For a long time, Mpiri has been planning a cd-release, and the huge amount of new and original musical material in the current repertoire should leave plenty of possibilities to realize these plans. The cd has also been one of the projects of our conductor Sunleif Rasmussen. This summer he informed that he unfortunately would have to finish his collaboration with the choir because of his heavy commitments to musical composition. Besides it has been to much stress travelling frequently between Denmark and the Faroe Islands, in order of conduction and rehearsal. Thus it was clear that the cd-project would have to be realized now - or never. During the days og 13th to 15th september we recorded the material to put on the cd. We have exclusively chosen modern faroese compositions to make it possible to label our cd as "contemporary faroese vocal music". We're yet to decide exactly when to release the cd. |
Concerts in Iceland - august 2002 |
Mpiri was on tour in Iceland during this summer from the 4th to the 12th of august. We gave three concerts in Reykjavík and it's proximity. 7th of august in the newly built Musikkháskólinn in Hafnarfirði, 9th of august in the famous Langholtskirkjan in Reykjavík and 10th of august in the beautiful and sonorous church of Skálholt - the ancient episcopal residence of Iceland, situated in the northeast of Reykjavík. There was a fairly large audience for all of the concerts, and they were in other ways very succesful - especially those in Hafnarfjørður and Skálholt. Generally it was a splendid and amusing tour to the "land of the sagas". |
Singing for the faroese parliament - july 2002 |
We have been asked to sing at the reception when the 150 year of the faroese parliament is honoured. This will take place in the faroes on the 29'th of July. |
The concerts in Gjógv - july 2002 |
The concerts in Gjógv were very good. The first
concert - in the church - gathered around 100 spectators. This meant that
the church was filled to the last seat. Eventhough we were a bit nervous,
the concert was good. |
Sunleif Rasmussen is honoured - june 2002 |
It is now official - our conductor Sunleif Rasmussen will receive the Nordic Councils Music Prize. The prize is given for his first symphony - Oceanic Days. Along with the honours he will receive a payment of 350.000 DDK |
Concerts to come - may 2002 |
Next things on our schedule is the North Atlantic Cultural
Festival in Copenhagen which is ultimo May. We have been asked to sing
at the reception after the opening of the festival and at the big concert
with many faroese, icalandic and greenlandic choirs. |

New works ordered |
Mpiri has placed an order for three new choir works to
be composed for us. The composers asked for these works are: Kári
Bæk, Tróndur Bogason and Pauli í Sandagerði -
all are faroese. The works are to be handed over in september 2001, and
will be part of our new repertoire. |
North Atlantic Choir Festival - may 2001 |

is going to be in The Round Tower in the very center of Copenhagen. We
have since november last year been working on our new concert programme,
which is to be used at this concert. |
Tour to the Faroe Islands - october 2000 |
At the moment we are preparing a tour to the Faroe Islands,
which is going to be during the period of the 27. to the 31. of october.
It was already decided early this spring that the choirs main project
in the fall should be to go on a tour to the islands. It is of course
very exciting for a faroese choir living in Denmark to go back home
for the first time to show our worth - the ultimate challenge, so to speak.
This idea, Sunleif Rasmussen supported completely, when he took over the
choir, so we have worked very focused on this ever since the summer vacations. First half: |

New conductor - august 2000 |
| The most exciting thing that has happened to Mpiri recently
is that the famous faroese composer and conductor Sunleif Rasmusse in
august 2000 agreed to lead the choir. We are very happy to have such a
great opportunity and look forward to work undir his skilled guidance. |
